Can I use HD footage in TriCaster PRO FX’s editor?
Yes – HD footage (and oversize images) can be used within Standard Definition projects. You cannot, however, save projects in HD, as those clips could not play from the VCR during a live production.
Can I create my own live virtual sets?
Yes. NewTek provides several free utilities for this purpose. NewTek LiveSet Constructor™ is a basic utility to quickly create layered key masks. It takes seconds to create a foreground, such as an anchor desk, and a background. LiveSet Producer™ is a plug-in for Aura™-compatible applications that lets you quickly use brushes to manipulate video in real time. The advanced utility, LiveSet Generator™, provides real-time reflections, variable focal lengths, multiple camera angles and more. LiveSet Generator is a plug-in for LightWave 9.3 and the same tool that NewTek artists used to create the existing virtual sets. Both utilities will be available on your NewTek registration page, in the My Downloads section.
Can a TriCaster be upgraded to FX?
Yes. NewTek is offering a trade-in on TriCaster 100 systems for PRO FX systems. This replaces a TriCaster 100 with a new TriCaster PRO, giving you component video in/out, balanced audio, increased storage and the ability to simultaneously stream and record an .avi to disk.
Can dealers sell ‘FX upgrades’ to customers with TriCaster PRO systems?
Yes, NewTek wants its authorized TriCaster dealers to participate in the upgrade program. The discount is the same as the TriCaster PRO FX full unit discount.
Must TriCaster systems be shipped to NewTek to be upgraded?
Yes, this is a factory upgrade. The units must be properly packed (original shipping box preferred) and the customer must pay for shipment of the unit to NewTek. NewTek will pay for return shipment at the same service class as was received (i.e., if the unit is shipped overnight, NewTek will return the unit by the same service.) NOTE: The original hard drive is replaced with a larger capacity drive. Content must be backed up before sending in the unit. NewTek will not return the original hard drive.
How long does it take to perform the factory upgrade?
We estimate that it will take approximately 2 business days at NewTek to complete the work.
TriCaster Family
Will NewTek still offer the original TriCaster PRO?
Yes. This does not replace any TriCaster, but adds another option to the family.
Will there be further TriCaster PRO software updates?
We are not announcing any plans to upgrade TriCaster or TriCaster PRO at this time.

NewTek SpeedEDIT™ is a resolution-independent video editor designed to work quickly and efficiently on any video project, from web streams to Standard Definition (SD) and High-Definition(HD). SpeedEDIT™ works smoothly and natively with MPEG-2, AVI, QuickTime, Flash and most popular video formats in either SD or HD. Enjoy real-time, full resolution on-screen HD previews with FireWire output to camera or deck.
What does SpeedEDIT™ offer?
Rather than emulating the “old school” film-cutting workflow found in most non-linear editors, NewTek streamlines the editing process by eliminating many unnecessary steps. SpeedEDIT™ allows all editing functions to be performed directly on native clips within its unique timeline and storyboard interface. This avoids the time-wasting steps of transcoding or pre-trimming content. SpeedEDIT™ further accelerates your editing process by dynamically linking Storyboard and Timeline, which allows the performance of many common functions in fewer steps. Ripple edits, clip replacement, segment repositioning, 3D video rotation, color correction, animated tittles and Targa sequence playback are just a few of the everyday tasks that SpeedEDIT™ performs faster than any other professional editor.
